Cleveland Indians
Spotlight on Bob Lemon.1946 was quite a year for Cleveland Indians Hall of Famer, Bob Lemon. Fresh out of the service, and playing center field, he saved Bob Feller's opening day victory by making a nifty catch and then doubling up a runner by throwing to second. He was also playing center later that year when Feller pitched his second no-hitter. A fair hitter with a great arm, he was encouraged by manager Lou Boudreau to switch to pitching. Despite his 4-5 record for '46, his 2.49 ERA was encouraging. In 1947, he went 11-5, and from 1948 to 1956 he would win 20 or more games seven times. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1976 with a record of 207-128. Other players elected to the Hall of Fame as Indians are Earl Averill, Lou Boudreau, Stan Coveleski, Larry Doby, Bob Feller, Al Lopez, Joe Sewell, Tris Speaker and Early Wynn. Elmer Flick, Addie Joss, Cy Young and Nap Lajoie were voted in as members of the Cleveland Naps.We feature Cleveland Indians players of yesterday and today.
