Chris Paul (born May 6, 1985), point guard for the L.A. Clippers, began his career with the New Orleans Hornets. In college, he was a standout performer for Wake Forest University, leading them to two NCAA tournaments and one Sweet Sixteen appearance. Among his many college achievements were being named the ACC Rookie of the Year following his freshman year and Consensus First Team All-American as a sophomore.He declared for the NBA draft following his sophomore year and was selected fourth overall by the Hornets. For the 2005-06 season, he led all rookies in points, assists, steals and minutes and was a runaway choice for NBA Rookie of the Year honors. He also won the ESPY Award for Best Breakthrough Athlete.
Following his rookie campaign, Paul continued to sparkle. He was the NBA leader in steals and assists for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. In addition, for 2007-08, he finished second to Kobe Bryant in the MVP voting, was selected as an All-Star, registered at least one steal in each of his 80 games and led the Hornets to the Playoffs.
In 2008-09, he set a record by recording a steal in his 108th consecutive game. He earned a place on the NBA All-Defensive Team first team, and the All-NBA second team. He was fifth in the 2009 MVP voting.¹
